Have You Kept Your New Year’s Resolutions?

New years resolutionsYou may find it odd talking about new years resolutions at this point in the year. But why? The concept behind these resolutions aren’t to entertain oneself for just the 1st week or month. They are meant to last a lifetime, and usually that’s a pretty long time. I’m sure most of you in the past has declared some sort of resolution. Whether it be to quit drinking or smoking, loose weight or be kinder towards others, they were probably short lived. If that’s the case don’t feel bad. Many if not all people who have attempted this has ended up scrapping the idea within the 1st couple of weeks and I am no exception.

In the days of old I too have halfheartedly tried many of the common resolutions that people do. Since I’m not a smoker and rarely if at all drink my list of choices that I can think of right now are even shorter. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not holier than thou I’m far from perfect. Diets were pointless and any form of being kinder towards others have failed miserably.

Up until last year I would occasionally have a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich in the evening as a snack. I would wash it down with a tall glass of cold milk. I came to realize this routine was more about the milk and not the sandwich. I love a cold glass of milk but just can’t drink it by itself, I need something to go with it. Weird huh? This worked out good for a while until I started noticing that every time I had my PBJ snack I would wake up the next morning with heartburn. I don’t know why it gave me heartburn but I attributed it to the peanut-butter. Since this grand realization of peanut-butter being connected to heartburn was in mid December of last year I decided to make it official by turning into my next new years resolution. Hardly a life changing decision I know. At any rate, I vowed against peanut-butter or any form of it. This includes but is not limited to Reeses Pieces, Reeses Cups, and peanut-butter M&M’s. I still do my milk routine but now substitute the PBJ with a cookie, Swiss Roll or something else.

Peanut-Butter Equals Death

So here it is half way through the year and still peanut-butter free. The mornings of heartburn are but a distant memory and I’ve probably lost a pound or two. I’ve been considering having a giant PBJ on December 31st to celebrate my 1 year achievement. I’m still undecided on this as I don’t want to ring in the new year with that dreaded case of heartburn or even worse that I have developed a peanut allergy and swell up and die!

Have you made a new years resolution this past year or at some time in the past? If so tell us what it was and how long you were able to keep it. If you are still keeping it till this day then kudos to you!
